Logistics for infrastructure projects in Uganda

Contractors building roads, bridges, water and sewerage works, industrial parks and oil access roads rarely have their plant where the next job is. A grader finishes in Masaka and is wanted in Gulu. A crusher is set up, run for a season and struck. Pipes, culverts, beams, pumps and tanks arrive by road and have to be lifted into position, often at a river crossing with a single approach.

Loads over the legal dimensions need a special load permit before the low-bed leaves the yard, and we arrange it.

Plant moved between sites without losing a week

Excavators, graders, rollers, dozers, crushers and batching plant on low-beds and semi-trailers, with the permit applied for and the route checked ahead of the move. We apply for the permit while the machine is still working.

Routes checked on the ground

Bridge capacity, overhead cables, culvert crossings, escarpment gradients and the difference between a tarmac trunk road and a murram feeder after rain. We re-check a dry-season route before a wet-season move.

Lifting at the point of work

Beams, culverts, pipe sections, pumps, gantries and precast units set into position, often from a single access on soft ground. The crane has to be picked for where it can stand.

Machines on hire for the contract

Excavators, telehandlers, forklifts and generators come on hire for the period, with or without an operator.

Site set-up and clearance

Camps, containers, fuel bowsers and workshop equipment in at the start and out at the end. We plan the clear-out too, so it does not hold up handover.

Permitted vehicle dimensions

We check the current dimension limits for every move and get a permit where the load exceeds them.

Special load permit

We arrange the special load permit as part of the move.

Lifting appliances and gear registered and thoroughly examined, with the register kept and produced on request.

Daily vehicle checks

We check every prime mover and trailer before each trip and record the check.

Driver competence

Heavy haulage drivers are vetted and licensed for the class, with the records on file.
